VMSS removal

If your business is on the VMSS list (Visa Merchant Screening Service), you can request removal by submitting a formal request to the PSP or acquirer that added you. This page explains how it works.

What is the VMSS list?

VMSS (Visa Merchant Screening Service) is Visa’s database of terminated or flagged merchants. Like MATCH, acquirers and PSPs must add merchants to VMSS when certain criteria are met and must check VMSS when onboarding. Being on VMSS can block or delay approval for new Visa-accepting accounts. Learn more in our What is MATCH/VMSS? guide.

How does VMSS removal work?

Visa does not remove listings on request from merchants. Only the acquirer or PSP that submitted your listing can request removal. The steps are the same as for MATCH:

  • Identify which PSP or acquirer listed you.
  • Prepare a clear explanation of the cause and what has changed.
  • Gather evidence of corrective actions.
  • Submit a formal removal request to that PSP; they review and, if satisfied, request removal from VMSS.

We help you build that request. The risk team of your PSP will perform a review and send you the verdict. See also VMSS reason codes and why we cannot guarantee removal.
